Event Photography: Miss Lizzie’s bar at the Miller High Life Theatre

As Milwaukee’s entertainment landscape continues evolve, so do the types of event photography for which we are called. We have done a number of shoots for the Miller High Life Theater showing how the space can be utilized. We were excited to hear about this new feature Miss Lizzie’s! It is in the outer lobby and is a tribute to Elizabeth Plankinton (1853 – 1923) who was an American philanthropist in the early 20th century. She was the daughter of Milwaukee businessman John Plankinton and was known for her support for local artists and artisans. She purchased a $10,000 pipe organ for the then-new, half-million-dollar 1909 Milwaukee Auditorium. The people of Milwaukee called Miss Plankinton the “municipal patroness” because of her generosity, and she was also known as “Miss Lizzie.”

You can feel the history in every corner of this building. Now, if you are looking for a pre-show cocktail, it is conveniently and historically located.

From a professional perspective, event photography for a space is so interestingly different than any other event photography. The story here is not really an event itself or a personal honor of any ing. The goal is to show the world how this space can be used. Smiling faces are one aspect of that story, but the food, drinks, and music are equally important in a shoot like this. Every event photography client has their own set of priorities. We communicate a lot ahead of time to understand what those priorities are.
